Trips & Prices
Hop aboard one of our fishing and sightseeing trips along the stunning Kaikōura coast. First stop is the crayfish pots, where we will try our luck for this Kaikōura delicacy. Then it’s fishing. We go after blue cod, sea perch, tarakihi, Ray’s bream, bluenose, groper and more. Once you’ve caught some fish, we’ll fillet and bag them for you, ready for cooking. You’re also welcome to catch and release. Trips are 4-6 hours. Private and corporate trips are available. Tight for time? Talk to skipper Ian about a shorter trip. Bookings are essential.
The boat
Our boat, Kai Moana, is a spacious 10-metre beauty with plenty of space for groups of up to ten guests. For maximum comfort, we suggest limiting your group to eight people so there’s extra room to stretch out or swing a fish around.
Built in 2014, Kai Moana is modern and set up for comfort. She’s powered by twin 150hp Yamaha 4-stroke engines, with full on-board toilet facilities, electronic fish finder, GPS and electric reels.

I have 45+ years of experience fishing and diving the Kaikōura coast. I cater for all skill levels, from total beginner fishers to experienced anglers. If you’re new to the sport, I’ll lend you some of my experience and teach you how to land your first fish. For those of you after the big one, I’ll take you to the best fishing spots for deep-sea fishing and give you the best shot at a great catch.
Kaikōura
‘Kaikōura’ is the Māori word for ‘crayfish meal’ – a fitting name for our beautiful town, famous for its seafood, sea life and sightseeing. Visitors to Kaikōura come to see the whales and dolphins which frequent the area, the seals which live here in a huge colony, and to taste the world-famous crayfish. Kaikōura offers some of the best fishing charters in New Zealand.
